Kitesurfing at Tbilisi Sea
The Main Spot in Georgia, Riding Conditions, and What’s Important to Know Before Going on the Water
When talking about kitesurfing in Georgia, many local riders consider Tbilisi Sea to be the most reliable and the most interesting spot in the country, especially for regular twin-tip riding. This is the place where you are most likely to catch good wind, and the number of rideable days is noticeably higher compared to many other locations in Georgia.
The main kitesurfing location here is Bollywood Beach. Almost the entire local kite community rides at this spot, and this is the place riders should focus on if they want to kite in Tbilisi without unnecessary questions regarding the location. According to local practice, riding in other areas of Tbilisi Sea may lead to questions from lifeguards or other services, so before visiting it is recommended to contact the local kitesurfing federation or local riders to check the current situation.
It is also important to understand why Tbilisi Sea is so highly valued. Despite its name, it is not an actual sea but a large urban reservoir. However, on windy days it delivers very serious and authentic riding conditions. The water area stretches for around 9 kilometers, and in some places the depth reaches up to 45 meters. For riders, this means open space, long tacks, good downwind runs, and a sense of scale that is often missing on small lakes and closed water reservoirs.
This is one of the main reasons why Tbilisi Sea is considered the best kite spot in Georgia. According to the experience of local riders, the Black Sea coast provides suitable twin-tip conditions much less often. For classic kitesurfing with jumps and active riding, the conditions at Tbilisi Sea are usually more frequent and more predictable.
At the same time, the Black Sea coast still remains an interesting destination, especially for very experienced hydrofoil riders who know how to use weaker, unstable, or very specific weather windows and, because of that, can still score many good riding days there.

Season and Wind Conditions
The riding season at Tbilisi Sea usually lasts from April to October. Interestingly, the best wind periods often happen not during the peak of summer, but rather in spring and early autumn. July and August are frequently lighter on wind, so there are usually fewer rideable days during that time.
On average, riders can expect around 2–4 rideable days per week during the season, although everything naturally depends on the forecast and weather patterns. Compared to many other locations in Georgia, Tbilisi Sea remains for many riders the most reliable and understandable option for regular riding.

The Character of the Spot
Bollywood Beach is a spot with real character. There is almost always chop on the water, and during strong wind the waves can become uneven and reach up to 1.5 meters. The wind itself is often strong, gusty, and compressed, especially near the shore where it tends to be even less stable. This is caused by the terrain, the shape of the shoreline, and the positioning of the spot itself.
Another important feature is the rocky shoreline. Because of this, launching and landing require confidence and attention. A mistake near the water can quickly lead to a kite falling onto rocks, equipment damage, or difficult situations in the most technical near-shore zone.
This personality is exactly what makes the spot especially attractive for experienced riders. It is not a postcard-style lagoon or a place where everything feels soft and easy. Bollywood Beach has energy, a sporty character, and its own rules — and this is exactly why locals value it so much.

What Tbilisi Sea Is Especially Good For
One of the biggest advantages of Tbilisi Sea is that it works well for several different riding disciplines.
For classic kitesurfing, it is an excellent location because of the long water area. Riders can make long tacks, ride far downwind, and avoid the cramped feeling often found on small lakes and enclosed reservoirs. For a city spot, this is a very rare and valuable quality.
Tbilisi Sea is also very suitable for hydrofoil, wingfoil, parawing, and e-foil riding. In many places the shoreline and bottom drop into deeper water quite quickly, so riders do not need to walk long distances through shallow water. Deep water begins fast, which makes the location especially convenient for foil disciplines. In addition, there is a lot of open space, which is important for long and free movement on the water.
For twin-tip riders, this spot works particularly well as a big air spot. Its strength is not perfectly flat water, but the energy of the location itself: the wind can feel dense, powerful, and extremely exciting. Yes, it can also be gusty, but exactly this combination of power, character, and chop is what makes Tbilisi Sea especially attractive for riders who enjoy high jumps and more aggressive riding.

SUP and E-Foil at Tbilisi Sea
While kitesurfing here is more associated with sporty riding and windy sessions, there are also excellent opportunities for calmer activities on the water. For relaxed riding and cruising, many people choose SUP Surf Tbilisi.
SUP riding at Tbilisi Sea is noticeably simpler, but the reservoir should still not be underestimated. Even when the water looks calm from the shore, the wind and waves can increase very quickly. That is why the minimum required safety equipment for SUP is a life jacket and a leash, so the board is not lost after a fall or sudden gust of wind.
Tbilisi Sea is also very interesting for e-foil riding. There is enough open space, and the water becomes deep quickly, making riding more comfortable. However, with e-foil it is especially important to pay attention to distance from other people, water traffic, and choosing a safe launch area.
Lifeguards regularly patrol the reservoir, and their recommendations should be taken seriously. This is an urban reservoir where safety is always more important than overconfidence. That is why, for both SUP and e-foil, it is better to choose calm weather, understandable water conditions, and launch from trusted locations such as SUP Surf Tbilisi.

Why Tbilisi Sea
The main secret of this place is that it is located directly next to the city while still providing a very real feeling of water, wind, and freedom. Riders can leave the city after a normal day and still get a session that does not feel “urban” at all.
This is exactly why many riders in Georgia consider Tbilisi Sea the main kite spot in the country. The wind works here more often, the conditions are great for twin-tip riding, the water area is interesting for hydrofoil, wingfoil, parawing, and e-foil disciplines, and this is where a strong local community has formed over the years.
If you come here with respect for the conditions, the local rules, and the nature of the water itself, Bollywood Beach can deliver incredibly memorable, powerful, and exciting riding sessions.
