The Tbilisi Reservoir is one of the most popular and accessible places for SUP trips in Georgia.
It’s located just 15 minutes from the center of Tbilisi — but feels like a true escape into nature.
The reservoir was created in the 1950s for water supply and flood protection.
Over time, it became a full-fledged recreation area.
With a length of about 8.75 km and a width of up to 2.85 km, it’s the largest artificial lake near the capital of Georgia — and a perfect place for paddleboarding.

Nature & Atmosphere
Along the shores of the Tbilisi Sea you’ll find wild hills, pine and deciduous forests, and sometimes open slopes that resemble Mediterranean landscapes.
In some spots, you might see pelicans, herons, or even foxes coming to the water at sunrise.
SUP riding here feels not just like a workout — but a real little nature adventure.

Surrounded by mountains, it’s famous for its incredible turquoise water — especially stunning on sunny days.
Paddling here feels like gliding through a mountain fairytale.
This place is popular with tourists, but the water stays calm and spacious — especially in the early morning or on weekdays.
SUP at Zhinvali is a great way to escape the city, enjoy pure nature, and discover hidden corners of the Georgian mountains.
One of the most beautiful routes is along the slope from the northern shore to the southern part of the reservoir, where you’ll find panoramic mountain views and the ancient Zhinvali Fortress.

Swimming Season
The SUP season here is short — about 6 weeks in mid-summer.
At other times, the water level drops, and the water becomes murkier.

Located in the mountains of Samtskhe-Javakheti, at over 1,900 meters above sea level, it offers a completely different atmosphere.
Even in summer, it stays cool here. The landscape feels wild and untouched: wide open spaces, moss-covered hills, fresh wind, and crystal-clear water.
A SUP trip on Tabatskuri is less about relaxing — and more about adventure and immersing yourself in raw, wild beauty.
On calm days, the water turns into a perfect mirror, reflecting the sky and hills. On windy days, the lake shows its character — with ripples and small waves.

Why SUP at Lake Tabatskuri?

SUP at Lake Paravani — The Mystical Stillness of Georgia’s Largest Lake

Lake Paravani is the largest lake in Georgia by area.
It’s located in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, at almost 2,100 meters above sea level.
Wide open water, mountain pastures all around, peaceful landscapes, grazing sheep, and a feeling of total freedom — this is why you should bring your SUP board here.
The lake is often called “the Georgian Iceland” — for its raw, mesmerizing atmosphere.
Even in summer, the air stays cool, while fog and changing weather create a very special mood.

Due to the altitude and frequent winds, early morning is the best time to paddle — the water is calmer.

SUP Trips at Sioni Reservoir — Silence, Mountains, and Mirror-Like Water

If you're looking for a peaceful and scenic paddleboarding spot not far from Tbilisi,
Sioni Reservoir is a great choice.
It’s a true mountain oasis: clear water surrounded by forested hills — and almost no waves.

Why Try SUP at Sioni Reservoir?
  • Mirror-like water: In the morning, the lake’s surface looks like glass — perfect for calm SUP rides.
  • Few people: Unlike Tbilisi Sea, you’ll rarely find crowds here, especially on weekdays.
  • Mountain views: Postcard-perfect scenery — green hills, silence, and endless sky.

How to Get There
Sioni is about 80 km from Tbilisi — around 1.5 hours by car.
The final part of the road is a beautiful mountain serpentine.
It’s best to arrive in the morning — the water is calmest at that time.

Where to Start Your SUP Trip
The shoreline is diverse — some parts are pebbled, others have soft grassy slopes.
The best launch point is on the southern side, near the dam — with easy access and shallow entry into the water.

What to Bring
  • Your SUP board (or rent one in Tbilisi)
  • Water and snacks — there are no shops nearby
  • Hat/cap and sun protection
  • Waterproof bag for your belongings
  • A light jacket — wind may pick up around midday

Is Sioni Suitable for Beginners?
Yes! The water is calm, with no current, and the depth near the shore is moderate.
Just follow basic safety rules: always wear a leash and a life vest — especially if you plan to paddle far from shore.

SUP at Sioni is a great way to escape the noise, recharge in nature, and discover a new place to relax.

Even a short paddle here gives you a feeling of solitude and total reset.

And if you’re lucky, you might spot local fishermen or a flock of birds flying over the water.

SUP at Green Cape — Paddleboarding Along Batumi Botanical Garden

If you’re looking for peace, nature, and clean water — without going far from Batumi — Green Cape near the Botanical Garden is the perfect place for a SUP trip.
Here, lush greenery comes right up to the shore, and the coastline changes from cliffs to beaches — every turn of your route brings something new.

Why Is This Spot Perfect for SUP?
  • Unique landscape — you paddle along a wild coast where the mountain slope is covered with subtropical plants almost down to the water.
  • No crowds — even in high season it stays quiet, especially in the morning or closer to sunset.
  • Clear water and sea life — you’ll see the bottom, seaweed, and sometimes small fish under your board. Real sea meditation.

Where to Start
The easiest place to enter the water is from the small pebble beach right under the Botanical Garden.
Look for "Green Cape Beach" or "Mtsvane Kontskhi" on the map.
If you have your own board and come by car — there is access to the water, but be ready to carry your gear down a small path.

What to Bring
  • SUP board (or rent one in Batumi)
  • Water shoes — the shore is pebbly with sharp rocks
  • Dry bag — the coast is rocky, and sometimes there’s no dry place for things
  • Mask — if you like to dive
  • Water and snacks — few cafes nearby, especially if you paddle far along the shore

Where to Paddle
The most beautiful route is along the cliffs towards Green Cape and further in the direction of Tsikhisdziri Beach.
You can paddle close to the rocks, watch bird nests, or swim into small bays.
Important — don’t paddle too far out to sea — there can be unexpected currents here.

Is This Spot Good for Beginners?
Yes — but with some conditions.
If this is your first SUP experience on the sea — go in the morning when the water is calm.
Wind can pick up suddenly, especially in the afternoon.
Wear a leash, a life vest, and stay close to shore if you’re not experienced.

SUP at Green Cape is a chance to see the Black Sea from a completely different side.
No noisy beaches or sunbeds — just green slopes, crystal-clear water, and the feeling of a real adventure.
